Fiji Braces for Heavy Rain and Potential Flooding: What You Need to Know

A heavy rain advisory is currently active for the western and northern regions of Fiji, as a low-pressure system brings significant cloud cover and rainfall. This weather pattern is anticipated to gradually extend across the entire country by tomorrow.

In the meantime, a north to easterly wind flow is dominating the weather conditions. The Northern Division, along with the Yasawa and Mamanuca groups, Viti Levu, and nearby smaller islands, is forecasted to experience intermittent rain, occasionally heavy, along with possible thunderstorms. Given the likelihood of intense rainfall, isolated thunderstorms may lead to flash flooding in low-lying areas.

Residents are advised to exercise caution as day-to-day activities may be disrupted due to wet road conditions and limited visibility. The Fiji Meteorological Service is scheduled to provide its next weather update at 10:30 PM tonight.

In summary, Fiji is bracing for significant rain that could impact daily life, but the community’s readiness to respond to such weather events can foster resilience and adaptation. It’s essential for individuals to remain informed and prepared as the situation develops.
