A heavy rain warning is currently in effect across the entire Fiji Group, despite the forecast that Tropical Cyclone Urmil is set to move out of Fiji’s area of responsibility later today.

According to the Fiji Meteorological Service, Tropical Cyclone Urmil, classified as a Category 2 system, was situated approximately 670 kilometers south of Nadi at midday. The cyclone is expected to leave the Nadi responsibility area by 6 PM.

However, weather officials caution that the cyclone’s lingering effects continue to impact the country through active rainbands and strong northwesterly winds. Occasional to sustained periods of rain are anticipated in most regions, with some areas likely experiencing heavy rainfall alongside thunderstorms.

Localised heavy rainfall raises the risk of flash flooding, particularly in low-lying and flood-prone areas. Residents are advised to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions as the weather system transitions.
