A heavy rain warning has been issued for several regions in Fiji, including Ra, Naitasiri, Tailevu North, Vanua Levu, Taveuni, and nearby smaller islands, as well as the Lau and Lomaiviti groups. Weather agencies report that an active trough of low pressure is slowly moving over the northern and eastern parts of the Fiji group, resulting in ongoing rainfall in these areas until Sunday.
Forecasts predict occasional to persistent rain, at times heavy, coupled with a few thunderstorms across the affected regions, namely Ra-Naitasiri-Tailevu North, Vanua Levu, Taveuni, and the Lau and Lomaiviti groups, indicating substantial rainfall in the coming days.
In light of these weather conditions, a flash flood warning has been issued for areas stretching from Tavua, Rakiraki, and Tailevu through the interior of Naitasiri to Nausori and Suva in the southeastern part of Viti Levu. Additionally, all of Vanua Levu is under a flash flood warning.
A flash flood alert remains for areas from Ba to Serua, including Sigatoka, Navua, and their surrounding interior regions. Residents in the warned areas are urged to remain vigilant, avoid flooded zones whenever possible, and take necessary precautions as the risk of heavy rain and flooding continues to loom.
As the community prepares for these weather developments, staying informed and proactive will be essential in navigating the potential challenges ahead.
