A flash flood warning has been issued for all of Fiji, following an escalation from a previous alert as the weather situation worsens. The Fiji Meteorological Service has reported that a trough of low pressure, along with persistent rain and cloud cover, is currently affecting the Fiji Group, heightening the risk of flash flooding across the region.
Coastal and low-lying areas are particularly vulnerable, as tide levels are forecasted to rise significantly. In Lautoka, the high tide is expected to peak at 1.62 meters at 2:37 PM, while Suva is anticipating a high tide of 1.54 meters at 3:26 PM.
The primary concern remains flash flooding, which may be exacerbated by heavy rainfall leading to overflows in drainage systems, small streams, low-water bridges, Irish crossings, roads, and residential properties, particularly in areas prone to flooding.
Authorities are urging the public to stay vigilant, refrain from unnecessary travel through flooded regions, and heed any instructions issued by relevant agencies as the heavy rains persist across the country. The situation emphasizes the importance of preparedness and community awareness in mitigating the impacts of natural weather phenomena.
