Weather officials in Fiji have cautioned that the risks of flooding will remain heightened until Wednesday, even after Tropical Cyclone Urmil has drifted out of Fiji’s Area of Responsibility and weakened overnight. The Fiji Meteorological Service officially confirmed that TC Urmil has rapidly weakened and has now been classified as Ex-TC Urmil.
While the cyclone itself is no longer active, officials warn that an active trough and the associated rainbands are still positioned over the region. As a result, occasional rain is expected to continue across Fiji, with the potential for heavy downpours, particularly in the Western Division.
Conditions are expected to gradually ease, but unsettled weather will persist until midweek, keeping the likelihood of flooding elevated, especially during high tide. Residents in low-lying and flood-prone areas are urged to stay alert, closely monitor water levels, and follow official weather advisories as conditions slowly start to improve.
Fiji’s community spirit and resilience shine through as officials and residents alike work together to navigate these challenging weather conditions.
