A flash flood alert remains in effect for regions of the Central and Eastern Divisions of Fiji as unstable weather continues to disrupt the country. The Fiji Meteorological Service has reported that a trough of low pressure hovering over the southern and eastern parts of the nation is leading to widespread cloudiness and rainfall. This system is anticipated to extend across Fiji starting tomorrow.
In addition to the flash flood alert, a heavy rain warning is also in place for the entire Fiji Group. Forecasters caution that localized heavy downpours could rapidly trigger flash flooding in various areas.
Communities in Navua, Suva, Nausori, Tailevu North, Ovalau, Kadavu, and southern Vanua Levu are particularly urged to stay vigilant. Potential impacts from the weather include flooding of small streams and drains, hazardous conditions at low-water crossings, rising water levels on roads, and inundation of homes in low-lying regions.
Authorities are encouraging the public to exercise extra caution, minimize unnecessary travel during heavy rainfall, and stay updated on weather developments. With the community’s safety as a priority, preparations and awareness could help mitigate the risks associated with the impending weather challenges.
