A flash flood warning is currently in effect across Fiji, as reported by the National Weather Forecasting Centre in Nadi. The agency issued an alert in its 8 am bulletin, indicating that an active trough of low pressure is resulting in widespread cloud and rain throughout the Fiji Group, significantly heightening the risk of flash flooding.
Forecasters expect isolated heavy rainfall to lead to flash flooding, particularly in low-lying and flood-prone areas. The most pressing hazards involve potential flooding of drainage systems, small streams, low water bridges, Irish crossings, as well as roads and properties situated in vulnerable regions.
Among the tide information shared, Lautoka is experiencing a high tide of 1.55 meters at 3:44 pm, while a low tide of 0.70 meters was noted at 9:23 am. In Suva, a high tide of 1.51 meters is anticipated at 4:28 pm, following a low tide of 0.60 meters recorded at 10:07 am.
Authorities are emphasizing the need for public vigilance. Residents are urged to avoid flooded roads and crossings and to exercise extreme caution, particularly during episodes of heavy rain. Those living in low-lying areas should closely monitor current conditions and be prepared to evacuate to higher ground if required. This proactive advice aims to ensure the safety of all residents during this potentially hazardous weather event.
