A trough of low pressure is currently situated over the Fiji islands, gradually moving southward. According to the National Weather Forecasting Centre in Nadi, this weather system will bring cloud cover and showers across most areas of the country for several days ahead.
As of midnight tonight, the forecast predicts occasional heavy showers and possible thunderstorms particularly affecting the Northern Division, Yasawa, Mamanuca, Lomaiviti, and Lau groups. The rain is expected to intensify later in the day, with increased frequency of showers anticipated.
In other regions, residents can expect cloudy conditions with brief showers and isolated thunderstorms, particularly during the afternoon or evening hours. The forecast warns that localized heavy rainfall could result in flash flooding in lower-lying areas.
Moderate to fresh easterly winds are also expected to accompany these weather changes.
This extended period of rainfall presents an opportunity for replenishing water supplies and benefiting the agricultural sector, although residents should remain vigilant and prepared for potential flooding in vulnerable areas.
