Tropical Cyclone Rae has now exited the Fiji region, but a new weather warning has surfaced as Tropical Depression 10F has strengthened into Tropical Cyclone Seru. The Fiji Meteorological Service (Fiji Met) has issued a heavy rain warning for the entire Fiji group, effective as of 8 p.m. last night.

Fiji Met officials reported that Tropical Cyclone Rae, classified as Category 2, is currently located to the south of Fiji waters and is moving away from the group. While there was minor damage recorded in places like Lakeba, Matuku, Cicia, Moala, and Vanuabalavu, fortunately, there were no major injuries or fatalities reported.

The ongoing adverse weather conditions include strong winds and heavy rainfall, which pose risks of localized flooding, particularly in communities prone to floods, as well as disruptions to traffic on minor roads and crossings. Additionally, severe flooding of major rivers could affect towns and properties.

Fiji Met has noted that while heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected over most regions, the situation will improve starting tomorrow with rainfall expected to clear. Nevertheless, residents in low-lying and flood-prone areas should remain vigilant as persistent heavy rain may lead to flash flooding.

In light of this weather event, the collective action and preparedness of the community are paramount. Drawing on past experiences with similar cyclones, the spirit of unity among the Fijians can significantly lessen the impact of these storms. Local leaders are urging residents to stay informed through updates and to take necessary precautions to safeguard themselves and their properties.

This ongoing situation serves as a testament to the strength and resilience of the Fijian community. By working together, residents can enhance their safety and showcase their enduring spirit in the face of nature’s challenges.
