Heavy rainfall is set to affect the Fiji group starting tomorrow, driven by the activity from Category 2 Tropical Cyclone Seru, according to the Fiji Meteorological Service. Currently located in the far west of Fiji, the cyclone is moving southeast, which is expected to strengthen northwesterly winds and lead to significant rainfall throughout the region.

Residents should brace for cloudy conditions with intermittent showers that may escalate into localized heavy downpours, especially in the Western and Northern Divisions, including Kadavu and the Southern Lau group. With rainfall likely to become more intense and frequent, the Nadi weather office has issued warnings that the persistent heavy rain may cause flash flooding in low-lying and susceptible areas.

This weather alert echoes previous warnings concerning heavy rain across Fiji, particularly in regions where similar low-pressure systems have raised concerns about flash floods. Local authorities and meteorological services are urging the public to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions to protect themselves from potential flooding.

While the heavy rain can cause disruptions, it also has the potential to rejuvenate vital water supplies critical for agriculture, helping communities build resilience in the face of challenging weather. It remains essential for residents to stay updated on weather conditions and to prepare for the forecasted rainfall adequately.
