Tropical Cyclone Rae is forecasted to leave Fiji waters by tomorrow morning, moving at approximately 15 km/h. It is expected to pass just west of Lakeba later today and continue west of Ono-I-Lau early tomorrow. The cyclone, currently producing gale to storm force winds ranging from 65 km/h to 110 km/h, along with gusts from 90 km/h to 155 km/h, is anticipated to affect multiple regions including Vanua Balavu, Tuvuca, Lakeba, Moce, Cicia, Nayau, Mago, and others across the Lau group.
In the eastern areas of Vanua Levu, including Cakaudrove Province and Taveuni, strong to gale force winds of 45 km/h to 85 km/h will be experienced, with gusts reaching up to 120 km/h. Residents in those areas should prepare for squally thunderstorms and rough seas. Southeastern parts of Viti Levu will also experience fresh to strong southeasterly winds with possible gusts up to 80 km/h.
These developments follow a series of warnings and alerts that have been issued throughout the country regarding Cyclone Rae, including hurricane and storm warnings for various groups. Authorities are strongly advising residents to take precautions by securing their properties and gathering necessary emergency supplies, drawing on experiences from previous weather disturbances to emphasize the value of community preparedness and solidarity.
In reflection of past cyclones, local leaders have highlighted the strength that community cooperation brings in times of crisis. As Fiji faces another storm, it is essential for residents to stay connected, prepared, and resilient, demonstrating that together, they can overcome the challenges posed by natural disasters.
As the storm approaches, there is hope within the community, reminding everyone about the importance of staying informed and supporting each other through these tough situations. Preparedness can significantly lessen the impact of the cyclone, ultimately helping families stay safe.
