Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Livai Driu has announced that police divisions across Fiji have activated their standby teams in preparation for the arrival of Tropical Cyclone Rae. As the cyclone approaches Fiji’s waters, ACP Driu confirmed he has received updates from officers on Vanuabalavu regarding the ongoing efforts to aid local communities.
In light of the impending cyclone, police personnel are actively assisting families with evacuations to designated shelters. ACP Driu has strongly advised residents, particularly those residing in coastal and low-lying areas, to take immediate precautions to protect their safety. He emphasized, “We urge the public to stay safe and adhere to all official advisories. Keep your children indoors, as conditions are dangerous for outdoor activities. Accidents can happen, and we want everyone to remain safe.”
Driu also reminded drivers to be cautious due to potential visibility issues related to the storm and urged mariners to follow safety advisories concerning maritime travel.
The Fiji Meteorological Service has indicated that Tropical Cyclone Rae has the potential to strengthen, marking an important period for local residents to prepare thoroughly. Previous warnings have highlighted the risks associated with severe weather conditions, with authorities reminding communities to avoid flood-prone areas and gather emergency supplies.
Additionally, a spirit of community solidarity has been noted as essential in weathering such challenges. During past incidents, collective preparedness has proven effective in mitigating the impacts of severe weather. ACP Driu’s proactive stance underscores the importance of vigilance and community engagement during this critical time.
