Spread the love

Residents of Fiji should prepare for an increased amount of rainfall in the upcoming days, which may lead to flash flooding in certain areas. The Fiji Meteorological Service has issued a heavy rain alert that is currently in effect for the Northern Division, as well as the Yasawa and Mamanuca Groups.

The alert also covers the western and northern regions of Viti Levu, specifically from Momi to Nadi, Lautoka, Ba, Tavua, and Rakiraki. According to the weather service, a trough of low pressure is bringing associated clouds and rain, and is expected to extend its reach across the entire country by tomorrow.

Conditions indicate a flow of north to easterly winds throughout Fiji. The forecast includes occasional rain, which may be heavy at times, along with a chance of thunderstorms in the Northern Division, Yasawa and Mamanuca Groups, Viti Levu, and nearby smaller islands. Residents should be mindful of the potential for isolated thunderstorms, which could result in heavy rainfall and the risk of flash flooding in low-lying areas. Additional concerns include wet roads and reduced visibility, which could pose challenges for motorists.

As Fiji braces for more rain, it’s important for the community to stay informed and take necessary precautions to ensure safety during this weather event.

With each weather challenge, there is an opportunity for the Fijian community to come together, support one another, and demonstrate resilience.
