The year 2024 has proven to be highly successful for Fiji Amateur Boxing under the leadership of national coach Cam Todd. Since taking on the role in May last year, Todd has implemented substantial changes aimed at enhancing the sport, resulting in noteworthy improvements.

In preparation for the 2023 IBA Men’s World Amateur Boxing Championship held in Tashkent and leading up to the upcoming Pacific Games in the Solomon Islands, Todd, along with the Fiji Amateur Boxing Association, has dedicated significant efforts to secure more competitive opportunities for boxers both domestically and internationally.

Throughout the year, Todd successfully organized ten international competitions in Fiji, featuring teams from Australia and New Zealand. This influx of competition has been beneficial for the local boxers, greatly enhancing their skills and exposure.

One of Todd’s standout achievements was the performance of the junior youth teams during the June 2024 Youth & Junior Oceania Boxing Championships in Tahiti. He took 11 boxers to this prestigious event, resulting in an impressive haul of five gold medals, five silver medals, and one bronze, marking a remarkable turnaround from the previous year when Fiji earned only two bronzes.

Moreover, Todd has been proactive in promoting female participation in boxing. The growth in the number of female boxers has been significant, rising from just two last year to between 15 to 20 women, ranging from ages 10 and up, actively involved in the sport.

Looking ahead, Todd anticipates an even more promising 2025 season with plans underway to send teams to various overseas competitions. This forward momentum highlights the enthusiasm and commitment within Fiji’s boxing community and suggests a bright future for the sport in the region.

In summary, under Cam Todd’s guidance, Fiji Amateur Boxing is experiencing a transformative period, marked by increased domestic competitions, successful international performances, and growing female participation. With continued dedication and support, the future of boxing in Fiji looks encouraging.
