The year 2024 has proven to be a significant one for Fiji Amateur Boxing, particularly under the guidance of national coach Cam Todd. Since his appointment in May 2023, Todd has made substantial strides in advancing the sport in Fiji.

Building on the momentum from the 2023 IBA Men’s World Amateur Boxing Championship held in Tashkent, Todd and the Fiji Amateur Boxing Association have worked diligently to enhance the training and competitive opportunities for local boxers, both at home and abroad. Notably, they organized ten international competitions in Fiji this year, featuring teams from countries like Australia and New Zealand, which provided invaluable experience for the athletes.

One of Todd’s remarkable achievements this year was the team’s performance at the June 2024 Youth & Junior Oceania Boxing Championships in Tahiti, where they secured an impressive tally of five gold medals, five silver medals, and one bronze. This marked a significant turnaround from the previous year, highlighting the exceptional talent of the boxers who participated.

In addition, Todd has focused on promoting women’s participation in boxing, witnessing a growth from only two female boxers last year to a thriving group of 15 to 20 women ranging from 10 years old and above.

With ambitions for an even larger boxing season in 2025, Todd is already laying the groundwork for overseas competitions, signaling a bright future for Fiji boxing.

This story reflects not only the progress made in the sport but also the hope for continued growth and success as the boxing community in Fiji expands and flourishes.

In summary, under Coach Cam Todd’s leadership, Fiji Amateur Boxing is currently experiencing growth and success, particularly among youth and women, laying a strong foundation for the future.
