Fiji’s diverse sports landscape is set to thrive with increased financial support, particularly highlighted by Zeg Investments Director Alfaaz Mallam. He expressed optimism about the potential growth of other sports like boxing, which is often overshadowed by the country’s rugby success. Mallam made these remarks while announcing Zeg’s sponsorship of the upcoming Zeg Kings Boxing Promotions set for July 19 in Suva.

Zeg Investments has a history of supporting various sporting activities in Fiji, having previously sponsored teams in soccer, rugby, rugby league, bodybuilding, and weightlifting. Mallam believes that with further investment from companies and the government, sports outside rugby can achieve similar heights. “What we lack here is the financial backing,” he stated, emphasizing collaborative efforts could lead to impressive outcomes for sports in Fiji.

The Kings Boxing Promotions will showcase 22 fighters across 11 thrilling bouts, with the main event featuring Fijian champion Binnu Singh taking on Australia’s Runqi Zhou. This event marks a significant moment in Fijian boxing history as it will host the first-ever World Boxing Association (WBA) title fight on local soil, further igniting enthusiasm around the sport.

The boxing promotion is expected to attract considerable attention, not only from local fans but also from the international community. Viewers can catch the event through pay-per-view for $99FJD on viti.plus, solidifying the promotion’s outreach and accessibility.

In light of these developments, the boxing community in Fiji is experiencing a renewed sense of hope and potential growth, signaling brighter prospects for athletes and enthusiasts alike. Support for the event reflects a growing recognition of boxing’s role in enriching Fiji’s sports culture while creating opportunities for local talent to shine on both national and global stages.
