Two heavyweight boxers in Fiji have been suspended for four months following an incident that occurred during a boxing match at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka. The Boxing Commission of Fiji (BCF) announced the suspensions after a meeting with the Minister of Youth and Sports, Jese Saukuru, who expressed his disappointment over the events that took place during the fight between Fiji heavyweight champion James ‘The Beast’ Singh and Semi Dauloloma.
BCF chairman Adi Narayan criticized the situation, calling it a disgrace to the sport. He emphasized the importance of sportsmanship among champion-level boxers. Singh holds the heavyweight championship title while Dauloloma is the current Leweni Waqa Memorial heavyweight champion.
The commission’s decision to suspend both fighters came after discussions with the Minister of Sports. Narayan stated that the suspension would serve as a message to all boxers in the region. He noted that if Dauloloma had taken a brief break during the fight, he might have emerged victorious.
The bout, which marked the third meeting between the two fighters, ended in controversy when Singh hit Dauloloma while he was down, prompting referees to intervene as tensions flared. The fight was ultimately stopped and ruled as a no-contest.
Despite the incident, James ‘The Beast’ Singh retains his title as the heavyweight champion of Fiji.
