The Boxing Commission of Fiji has officially suspended the license of the South Pacific Boxing Promotion (SPBP) and its promoter Fredy Chand. This decision follows a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the late Ubayd Haider, a promising local boxer whose untimely passing raised significant concerns.

Eroni Loganimoce, a member of the BCF board, stated that the suspension was largely due to Chand’s failure to meet certain agreed-upon standards and commitments made with the board. He also noted the serious concerns regarding the welfare of boxers associated with the promotion, as well as insufficient cooperation from Chand.

Loganimoce emphasized that the safety of boxers in Fiji is the primary concern of the BCF and indicated that the commission is implementing measures to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.

The suspension took effect on Friday, November 29, and represents a crucial step towards enhancing the safety and integrity of boxing in Fiji.

This decision reflects the BCF’s commitment to the well-being of its athletes. By prioritizing boxer safety, the commission aims to foster a more secure environment for both current and future fighters in the sport.
