Fiji Boxing Commission Faces Heat Over Heavyweight Brawl

The Boxing Commission of Fiji (BCF) is currently investigating a brawl that occurred during the Fiji heavyweight title match, as well as a related incident at the Bluewater Boxing Promotion event held at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka on Saturday night.

This inquiry was prompted by Jese Saukuru, the Minister for Youth and Sports, who has requested the Commission to issue a decision regarding those involved in the altercation by today.

Saukuru expressed his concerns, stating, “We are entrusting this matter to the Boxing Commission of Fiji board for a thorough investigation.” He emphasized the worrying nature of such incidents in professional boxing, noting that it is unacceptable for violence to overshadow the sport.

He pointed out that one of the fighters, Dauloloma, was performing well, which made the brawl particularly disappointing. “If you review the video clips, Dauloloma was actually winning. It shouldn’t have escalated to that level,” he remarked.

BCF chairman Adi Narayan has confirmed that a press conference will take place in Suva this morning to address the situation.
