Fiji Boxing Brawl Sparks Investigation: What’s Next?

The Boxing Commission of Fiji (BCF) is currently investigating a brawl that occurred during the Fiji heavyweight title fight and other related incidents during the Bluewater Boxing Promotion event at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka on Saturday night.

The investigation was prompted by a directive from the Minister for Youth and Sports, Jese Saukuru, who has requested the Commission to announce its findings today regarding the individuals involved in the altercation.

Saukuru emphasized the importance of addressing such issues, stating, “We are leaving it with the Boxing Commission of Fiji board to look into it and investigate what had happened.” He expressed his concerns and those of the government regarding the incident, labeling such occurrences as unacceptable in professional boxing.

“Boxing is a sport. People are trying to exercise their power but I have asked them to investigate,” he remarked, adding that footage from the event showed that the fighter Dauloloma was performing well and that the situation escalated unnecessarily.

BCF chairman Adi Narayan has confirmed that a press conference will be held in Suva this morning.
