Fiji Boxing Brawl Sparks Investigation: What’s Next?

The directors of the Boxing Commission of Fiji (BCF) are currently investigating a brawl that broke out during the heavyweight title fight and another incident at the Bluewater Boxing Promotion event in Lawaqa Park, Sigatoka, on Saturday night. The inquiry was prompted by the Minister for Youth and Sports, Jese Saukuru, who is expecting the Commission to announce their decisions regarding the individuals involved in the altercation today.

Saukuru expressed his concerns about the incident, emphasizing that such events are not typical in professional boxing. He noted that boxing should be treated as a sport and discouraged the misuse of power within the ring. He pointed out that based on video footage, fighter Dauloloma appeared to be winning the match before the situation escalated, which should not have occurred.

In response to the unfolding situation, BCF chairman Adi Narayan confirmed that a press conference is scheduled for this morning in Suva.
