Fiji Bitter has reaffirmed its dedication to the growth of grassroots rugby in Fiji by launching the Fiji Bitter Malake 7s, which is the second leg of the Fiji Bitter 7s Series. The event was officially announced at the Paradise Beverages (Fiji) Ltd office in Suva yesterday.
During the launch, tournament coordinator Isoa Tute and Etrina Simpson, head of marketing for Fiji Bitter, formalized the sponsorship with a signing ceremony. Tute expressed gratitude to the sponsors for their ongoing support as the tournament enters its third year, featuring 32 teams in the men’s category, 24 in the 18-U21 category, and eight women’s teams.
“We have another opportunity this year, and we aim to achieve our objectives for rugby development alongside improvements in the village,” Tute said. This development includes the initiation of phase two of the local Methodist Church on Malake Island, an area that has suffered from the impact of recent cyclones.
Simpson emphasized that the tournament not only showcases emerging rugby talents but also plays a key role in promoting local sustainability efforts. “The Malake 7s not only highlights rugby talent but also supports local sustainability initiatives, which is something we at Fiji Bitter take pride in,” Simpson stated.
The Fiji Bitter Malake 7s is set to begin tomorrow and will conclude on Saturday at the Narauyabe Sports Ground in Rakiraki.
