The Fiji Bitter Wairiki 7s tournament commenced spectacularly at the Wairiki Parish Grounds yesterday, showcasing a vibrant start to the competition. The event began with the junior grade matches, which kicked off on Tuesday, culminating in the declaration of champions for the under-15 to under-18 categories.

As the junior competitions wrapped up, the focus shifted to the main event featuring teams in both the under-18 to under-21 categories and the senior divisions. Matches unfolded in these grades, followed by an engaging lineup of senior matches.

The tournament is set to continue tomorrow with the excitement running high, concluding on Saturday.

In the results so far for the U18-21 category, Jay Brothers edged past Breakthrough Brothers with a score of 14-7, while Dominion Brothers claimed a narrow victory over Navakawau Brothers with a score of 5-0. Supercool Vatukoro dominated Naselesele with a commanding 24-0 score, and Waitabu outperformed Sea Brothers with a score of 14-0. Several teams, including Southern Babas and Sausauvou Taveuni, won by default. In other results, Fiji Pine Brothers triumphed over Nabau Brothers with a score of 17-5.

In the Men’s Category, Police Blue secured a solid victory against Raiwasa Taveuni with a score of 24-5, while Wairiki Old Boys faced a narrow defeat to Kingston Waidigi, finishing 0-5. Viti Roofing Devo Babas put forth a strong performance, winning by a significant margin of 36-5.

The winners of the junior grades have been announced, with Young Trinity Brothers taking the title in the U15 category, Sausauvou Taveuni winning in U16, Eagle State Taveuni claiming the U17 title, and Navakawau Brothers and Eagle State Naselesele being crowned champions in the U18 Men’s and Women’s categories, respectively.

This tournament not only highlights the talent of young athletes but also promotes community bonding and sportsmanship in Fiji, instilling hope for the future of rugby in the region.
