The Fiji Bitter Savusavu 7s is set to return to Ratu Ganilau Park in the coming weeks, with a renewed focus on grassroots involvement, heightened competition, and stronger community ties during this three-day event. As a staple of the national sevens calendar, this year’s tournament is anticipated to attract more participants from Savusavu and across Vanua Levu. Organizers are increasing the prize money for the Bowl and Shield divisions to stimulate greater participation and acknowledge development in rugby at all levels.

Pita Ralaca, the tournament organizer and president of the Gaunavou Rugby Club, highlighted that these changes reflect the event’s enduring commitment to enhancing rugby pathways in the northern regions of Fiji. “The Fiji Bitter Savusavu 7s has always been shaped by the passion of our community and our local players,” Ralaca stated. “This year, we proudly welcome 32 men’s teams, eight women’s teams, and 16 Under-21 teams, showcasing our dedication to providing opportunities for aspiring athletes across all divisions.” The continued partnership with Fiji Bitter is viewed as pivotal for delivering a quality event for players, officials, and supporters alike.

Maintaining its established format, the tournament will feature pool matches that determine advancement into the various competitions, including Cup, Plate, Bowl, Shield, and Saucer. All games will adhere to tournament bylaws in line with the Fiji Rugby Union and international rugby standards, assuring consistent and competitive play throughout the event.

In addition to the sporting action, spectators can look forward to an enhanced match-day atmosphere, including trivia, prize giveaways, and daily raffles designed to engage the crowd. Etrina Simpson, Head of Marketing – Alcohol at Coca-Cola Europacific Partners, expressed the importance of the tournament in the Savusavu community. “You can feel the energy in Savusavu during this tournament. The support from the local community is palpable, with thousands gathering each year, showing how much the Savusavu 7s resonates with everyone.”

A commitment to sustainability is another highlight this year, with a full recycling program being introduced at Ratu Ganilau Park. In collaboration with the Savusavu Town Council, collection points for plastic bottles will be established, supported by a dedicated team to uphold cleanliness throughout the tournament.

The Fiji Bitter Savusavu 7s continues to be a platform for showcasing regional talent, fostering community pride, and delivering a professionally organized event that embodies the spirit of Savusavu. As the fourth leg of the Fiji Bitter 7s Series 2025–2026, its significance in Fiji’s national sevens framework is more evident than ever.
