The upcoming Fiji Bitter Nawaka Sevens tournament is set for March 14-15 at Prince Charles Park in Nadi, marking it as the exciting penultimate event in the Fiji Bitter sevens series.
This announcement was made by Mike Spencer, General Manager of Paradise Beverages, during the sponsorship launch event held in Suva. He noted that this tournament is significant, coinciding with the 38th year of Paradise Beverages’ sponsorship of the Nawaka tournament. Spencer expressed pride in their long-standing partnership with rugby, highlighting its growth and the excitement it brings to local communities. “It has become more than just sponsorship; it is a friendship that spans decades,” he stated.
Spencer shared his observations over his 12 years with the company, noting how the tournament has expanded in attendance and talent. He anticipates an exhilarating experience for spectators, stating, “I believe it is the best grounds for sevens rugby and is always full of people.”
Eparama Sailo, president of the Nawaka Rugby Club and tournament organizer, echoed Spencer’s sentiments about the importance of the event in highlighting local players’ talents. He emphasized community involvement, noting that local villages will play various supportive roles, from hosting teams to coordinating meals and transportation, benefitting both the tournament atmosphere and the local economy.
Together, the Nawaka Sevens tournament and the larger Fiji Bitter sevens series, which includes 12 tournaments from October to March, cultivate a pathway for discovering and developing emerging rugby players, many of whom have gone on to play for national teams in various formats. As Fiji continues to nurture rugby talent through these community-driven initiatives, local enthusiasm and engagement illustrate the vital role of sports in fostering unity and growth.
Overall, the Fiji Bitter Nawaka Sevens tournament promises to be a vibrant celebration of rugby, embodying community spirit and sportsmanship.
