Local rugby sevens teams will have the opportunity to face off against the renowned Fijian Drua in the upcoming 3rd Fiji Bitter Mataso 7s tournament. This inaugural match featuring the Drua is anticipated to set the stage for many future competitions. Tournament Director James Vulinituraga expressed enthusiasm for the Drua’s participation, emphasizing the promising outlook it brings to the event.
Vulinituraga also noted that this year’s proceeds will contribute to the construction of a much-needed community bridge, which is currently underway. In addition, the Fiji 7s team will field two trial teams drawn from their extended player squad.
The tournament will feature a total of 32 men’s teams, 8 women’s teams, and 16 Under-20 teams, showcasing a diverse range of talent. A significant total prize purse of $8,500 has been made available for participants.
This event not only enhances local sports but also aims to contribute to community development, highlighting the positive intersection of athletics and social responsibility. With its diverse lineup and substantial rewards, the Mataso 7s promises to be an exciting and impactful occasion for rugby enthusiasts and players alike.
