Local rugby 7s teams are set to face the Fijian Drua at the upcoming 3rd Fiji Bitter Mataso 7s tournament. This inaugural event marks the beginning of what Tournament Director James Vulinituraga hopes will be a long-standing tradition, bringing exciting competition to the local rugby scene.

Vulinituraga expressed enthusiasm about the Drua’s participation, noting the promising future it holds for both players and fans alike. He also mentioned that this year’s funding will support the construction of a community bridge, a worthwhile project aimed at fostering local development.

In addition to the Drua, the Fiji 7s team will create two trial teams drawn from their extended squad to showcase emerging talent. A total of 32 men’s teams, eight women’s teams, and 16 Under-20 teams are set to compete, making this a significant event in the rugby calendar. The tournament will feature a total prize pool of $8,500, which adds an extra incentive for the participants.

This event not only promotes local rugby but also demonstrates a commitment to community enhancement through infrastructure development. The involvement of established teams like the Fijian Drua likely inspires young athletes, fostering a spirit of competitive excellence and passion for the sport.

With a diverse range of participating teams and an exciting prize, the Mataso 7s promises to be a thrilling and meaningful event for all involved.
