Local sevens teams are set to showcase their skills against the Fijian Drua at the upcoming 3rd Fiji Bitter Mataso 7s tournament. This event marks the inaugural participation of the Fijian Drua, with Tournament Director James Vulinituraga expressing optimism about their inclusion and the promising opportunities it brings.
Vulinituraga also noted that funding from the tournament will contribute to the ongoing construction of a community bridge, highlighting the event’s commitment to supporting local development. In addition, the Fiji 7s team will select two trial teams from their extended squad to participate in the tournament.
The competition will feature a total of 32 men’s teams, 8 women’s teams, and 16 Under-20 teams, making for a lively and diverse sporting event. A substantial prize pool of $8,500 is set to attract talented participants and elevate the competitive spirit of the tournament.
The addition of the Fijian Drua not only enhances the excitement of the Mataso 7s but also underscores the growing recognition of local rugby talent. This tournament promises to be a significant celebration of sportsmanship and community engagement.
