The Fiji Bitter Marist 7s is set to enhance its visibility this year as a result of a new Memorandum of Understanding signed between the Marist Rugby Club and the Fijian Broadcasting Corporation (FBC). This partnership marks a significant milestone as the tournament celebrates its 50th anniversary, becoming one of Fiji’s most prominent grassroots rugby competitions.

Lawrence Tikaram, the president of the Marist Rugby Club, hailed the agreement as a progressive move for both the tournament and the development of grassroots rugby. He expressed gratitude towards FBC for their involvement, emphasizing, “It’s been 50 years for the tournament, which is a remarkable feat, and having FBC come on board to provide the imagery, the view, and the sound is another step change for grassroots development.”

Tikaram reflected on the enduring partnership between Marist and FBC, highlighting the critical roles both organizations have played in nurturing rugby talent in Fiji. This year’s golden anniversary is expected to be an extraordinary event, featuring more than 120 teams competing over three days, amounting to over 200 matches.

FBC Chief Executive Officer Tarun Patel also expressed his appreciation for the partnership, underscoring the importance of the collaboration with the Marist Club. He thanked the sponsors, players, team officials, and various clubs that have contributed to what promises to be a celebratory and memorable year. Patel assured that FBC’s broadcast team is ready to deliver a top-notch production to enhance the viewing experience for fans.

The Fiji Bitter Marist 7s continues to stand as one of the premier rugby sevens tournaments in the nation, serving as a foundational platform for grassroots talent while attracting national and regional attention each year. With this new broadcasting partnership, the tournament is poised to reach an even wider audience, further contributing to the growth of rugby in Fiji.
