In a noteworthy initiative celebrating the 50th edition of the Fiji Bitter Marist 7s, a total of 170 indigenous trees are set to be planted. This event is scheduled for March 26 to 28 at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva.
Lawrence Tikaram, president of Marist Rugby Club, emphasized that this tree-planting effort illustrates the tournament’s enduring dedication to environmental sustainability. Past initiatives have included the planting of 1,000 fruit trees in Naivucini, Naitasiri, and organized clean-ups along the Suva foreshore, underscoring the club’s commitment to ecological responsibility.
Both the participating teams and the tournament organizers will actively participate in this green initiative, with each captain from every team planting a tree. Additionally, 50 trees will be planted by sponsors and event directors to commemorate five decades of the Fiji Bitter Marist 7s.
This commitment to environmental stewardship alongside sporting celebration reflects an inspiring approach that fosters community engagement and ecological awareness. As the Fiji Bitter Marist 7s prepares to mark this milestone, it reinforces the message that sports can play a vital role in promoting sustainability.
