Fiji Bitter Kicks Off New Era for Grassroots Rugby and Community Support

Fiji Bitter has reiterated its dedication to fostering grassroots rugby in Fiji with the launch of the Fiji Bitter Malake 7s, the second leg of the Fiji Bitter 7s Series. The event was inaugurated at the Paradise Beverages (Fiji) Ltd office in Suva.

Tournament coordinator Isoa Tute and Etrina Simpson, head of marketing for Fiji Bitter, officially kicked off the tournament with a sponsorship agreement signing.

Tute expressed gratitude for the backing of the tournament’s sponsors as Fiji Bitter continues to support the competition for a third consecutive year. This year, 32 teams will compete in the men’s division, 24 in the under-21 category, and eight women’s teams.

“We are given one more opportunity this year, and we will strive to achieve our tournament goals on the rugby field and through community development as well,” Tute remarked.

A key focus of the development efforts is the second phase of rebuilding for the local Methodist Church on Malake Island, which was severely impacted by previous cyclones.

Regarding the community project, Simpson emphasized that the tournament not only identifies emerging rugby talent but also plays a crucial role in promoting sustainability within the community. “The Malake 7s not only highlights rugby talent, but it also significantly supports local sustainability efforts, which we at Fiji Bitter are proud to champion,” she stated.

The Fiji Bitter Malake 7s is set to begin tomorrow and will wrap up this Saturday at the Narauyabe Sports Ground in Rakiraki.
