The Fiji Bitter Lomaiviti and Mataso 7s rugby tournaments were officially launched at the Paradise Beverages Fiji Ltd headquarters in Walu Bay, Suva. The event marked the signing of sponsorship documents, attended by officials and media representatives.

Mark Spencer, the general manager of Paradise Beverages Fiji Ltd, expressed enthusiasm for supporting local sports talent and highlighted their commitment to fostering opportunities that create a positive impact in the community. “Together with the tournament’s organisers, we’re dedicated to nurturing local rugby talent,” Spencer stated.

Isoa Lala, president of the Yalovata Rugby Club, which is organizing the Lomaiviti 7s, applauded Fiji Bitter for its contributions to the community, particularly the installation of 23 streetlights. He noted that the support for this year’s event would also facilitate the construction of two new bridges.

James Vunituraga, the overall tournament director for the Mataso 7s representing the Mataso Nakorovou Rugby Club, expressed gratitude for Fiji Bitter’s backing and recognized the efforts of the organizers. The main goal is to build a new bridge to improve access for nearby communities during adverse weather conditions, especially after a viral video captured school students navigating a river during heavy rains.

The Mataso 7s tournament is scheduled to occur from November 15-17 at Nadovu Park, Lautoka, while the Lomaiviti 7s will take place from November 21-23 at Nasau Park on Ovalau island.

These tournaments not only promote rugby but also aim to uplift local communities, showcasing how sports can drive development and foster resilience in Fiji. The support from sponsors like Fiji Bitter ensures that positive changes can be made to improve local infrastructure and enhance community wellbeing.
