The Lomaiviti and Mataso 7s rugby tournaments were officially launched yesterday at the Paradise Beverages Fiji Ltd headquarters in Walu Bay, Suva. This significant event was marked by the signing of sponsorship agreements in the presence of officials and media representatives.
Mark Spencer, general manager of Paradise Beverages Fiji Ltd, expressed enthusiasm about contributing to the development of local sporting talent. He emphasized their commitment to fostering opportunities and supporting initiatives that can create a meaningful impact within the community.
Isoa Lala, president of the Yalovata Rugby Club, which is responsible for organizing the Lomaiviti 7s, highlighted Fiji Bitter’s contributions to the local community, including the installation of 23 streetlights. He noted that the support for this year’s tournament would help lay the groundwork for the construction of two new bridges.
James Vunituraga, the tournament director for the Mataso 7s, expressed gratitude on behalf of the Mataso Nakorovou Rugby Club for Fiji Bitter’s backing. He acknowledged the dedication of the organizers in putting together these games, and outlined the goal of building a new bridge to enhance access to nearby communities, particularly during adverse weather conditions. A video showing local students crossing a river in unfriendly weather had gained attention, underscoring the urgency of such infrastructure improvements.
The Mataso 7s is set to take place from November 15-17 at Nadovu Park in Lautoka, while the Lomaiviti 7s is scheduled for November 21-23 at Nasau Park on Ovalau Island.
These tournaments not only promise thrilling rugby action but also aim to drive vital infrastructure improvements, ultimately enhancing the quality of life in the local communities. This collaborative effort represents a hopeful step towards fostering local talent and addressing community needs through sports.
