The Republic of Fiji Military Forces has launched the initial planning phase for Exercise Bougainville 2026, a comprehensive multi-agency initiative focused on enhancing national readiness and coordination. This week-long planning conference is set to bring together various stakeholders, including government agencies, emergency services, non-government organizations, and international defense partners to align their objectives and prepare for intricate response scenarios.

Military Chief Major General Ro Jone Kalouniwai emphasized that this exercise will evaluate brigade-level preparedness and bolster interoperability across land, sea, air, and information domains. He noted the importance of identifying lessons learned during the planning phase to ensure a seamless integration of personnel, processes, and platforms.

Additionally, Major General Kalouniwai highlighted the significance of assessing the Republic of Fiji Military Forces’ transition to a modular brigade structure, which is aimed at enhancing flexibility within the force. He expressed enthusiasm for the exercise, anticipating that it will serve as a vital platform to advance robust training opportunities necessary for maintaining and strengthening cooperative relationships. Such relationships are essential for the safety and security of the nation and its citizens.

The initial planning conference is not only set to optimize coordination among participants but also to build trust in advance of the joint exercise. By focusing on collaboration and preparedness, Exercise Bougainville 2026 stands to significantly enhance Fiji’s defense capabilities and response strategies, laying a foundation for improved national and regional security.
