Former Fiji Bati international Marcelo Montoya is making a comeback to the Canterbury Bulldogs after signing a two-year contract. The 28-year-old rejoins his junior club following a four-season stint with the New Zealand Warriors, where he notched up 30 tries across 82 matches.
Montoya originally came through the ranks at Canterbury, playing from the Harold Matthews Cup to the National Youth Competition before debuting in the NRL in 2017. Bulldogs General Manager of Football, Phil Gould, expressed his excitement about bringing a local junior back to the club. “Marcelo is very passionate in the way he conducts himself both on and off the field. His versatility in the backline and experience will certainly complement our squad as he enters this next chapter of his career at the Bulldogs,” he said.
In related news, the Gold Coast Titans have announced that former Fiji Bati prop Reagan Campbell-Gillard will be joining the team in 2025 on a three-year deal. The 31-year-old boasts a wealth of experience with 221 NRL games played for Penrith and Parramatta, as well as representative appearances for the Blues and Kangaroos.
“It’s great to have Reagan join us in 2025,” said Titans coach Des Hasler. “He’s a no-nonsense front rower with a high work rate and has been a mainstay in the NRL for the past decade.”
