Basketball Fiji President Olive Whippy has highlighted the organization’s ambitious plans to promote the sport across the nation while acknowledging several challenges that hinder progress. The lack of suitable playing venues tops the list of obstacles, significantly impacting the development of basketball in the country.

As the 2026 season approaches, Whippy emphasized that Basketball Fiji must adapt to make the best use of the limited facilities currently at their disposal. She noted that securing venues has become increasingly competitive, with financial factors often influencing venue availability, even after prior bookings.

Despite these hurdles, the focus remains on preparing Fijian national teams for significant international competitions set for next year. Notably, Fiji’s basketball schedule includes two major events: the Commonwealth Games in Scotland, which will take place in June, and the Asian Games in Japan in September.

Whippy’s commitment to fostering basketball in Fiji, despite the challenges, reflects a hopeful outlook for the sport’s future as the organization continues to seek innovative solutions to accommodate its growing demands.
