The tribunal report detailing the findings of serious allegations against suspended Fiji Corrections Service Commissioner Dr. Jalesi Nakarawa is anticipated to be released by President Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu. This report stems from an investigation into claims of misconduct, including personal interests that may have conflicted with his official duties.
When inquiries were made, Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka, who is also the chairperson of the Constitutional Offices Commission (COC), directed questions to the COC Secretariat, specifically Solicitor-General Ropate Green. However, requests for confirmation regarding the report’s status remained unanswered. Acting Attorney-General Siromi Turaga commented that the report will be released by the President, who commissioned the tribunal.
The tribunal, headed by Justice Daniel Goundar and supported by Justices Dane Tuiqereqere and Savenaca Banuve, was established in July of last year following a COC recommendation to the President. The investigations focused on allegations that Dr. Nakarawa engaged in conduct amounting to misbehaviour, which includes personal financial interests and potential abuse of his authority. The tribunal concluded its proceedings in November 2025.
The unfolding situation highlights ongoing efforts to uphold accountability within Fiji’s correctional service leadership, which may restore public confidence in the integrity of government institutions.
