Fiji Authorities Seize Suspicious Consignments: What’s Inside?

A coordinated joint operation between the Fiji Police Force and the Fiji Revenue and Customs Service led to the seizure of consignments from British Columbia, Canada, which contained apparatuses potentially used for an illicit lab.

Acting Commissioner of Police Juki Fong Chew stated that task forces from the Western and Eastern Divisions, along with the Fiji Detector Dog Unit, intercepted the consignment at a warehouse in Nadi on Friday.

He explained that analysis of substances found in several containers showed negative results for illegal substances.

However, investigations are now focusing on the manufacturing aspect due to the fact that the substances, which are known medications and precursors, were found. The Acting Commissioner highlighted that numerous cartons contained equipment and apparatuses typically used for manufacturing illicit drugs.

Chew emphasized the significance of this seizure in the ongoing efforts to combat illicit drugs in various forms, including unlawful possession, cultivation, importation, and manufacturing.

He added that six people have been taken in for questioning as the investigation continues, and more individuals are expected to be questioned soon.
