A collaborative operation between the Fiji Police Force and the Fiji Revenue and Customs Service has led to the arrest of a 40-year-old man, a General Manager, along with three others. He has been charged with one count of Unlawful Importation of Illicit Drugs, in violation of Section 5(b) of the Illicit Drugs Control Act 2004. This incident revolves around a consignment that arrived in the country from Brazil on October 27, 2025, and was flagged as suspicious by authorities.
Identified by a Drug Detector Dog, the package was labeled as a “Smoke Machine” and contained a concealed motherboard. Upon inspection, a white powdered substance was discovered within, which tested positive for cocaine, weighing 640 grams. Following this, a controlled delivery was executed, resulting in the interception of a vehicle carrying the main suspect and two accomplices in the company’s car park on October 30.
In the aftermath, all four suspects were interviewed regarding their involvement, and while the charged suspect remains in police custody pending his appearance in the Suva Magistrates Court, the others were released following consultation with the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
This operation reflects a broader trend in Fiji’s law enforcement efforts to crack down on drug trafficking. Previous cases have seen similar collaborations between the police and customs officials, resulting in significant seizures of narcotics, including instances involving over four kilograms of methamphetamine. Recent investigations have shed light on the scale of drug trafficking operations in the region, emphasizing the authorities’ commitment to dismantling organized crime and ensuring public safety.
The proactive stance taken by Fiji’s law enforcement agencies provides hope for a brighter future, wherein continued vigilance and collaboration can lead to a decline in drug-related offenses and a safer environment for all residents. As investigations continue, authorities remain focused on tackling these issues effectively, reinforcing community trust and cooperation in the process.
