A renewed commitment to intelligence cooperation between Fiji and Australia was showcased during Commissioner of Police Rusiate Tudravu’s recent visit to the Australian Federal Police (AFP) Southern Command headquarters in Melbourne. This significant meeting highlighted the importance of collaboration in addressing the increasing issues related to transnational crime.
Commissioner Tudravu was warmly welcomed by Acting Assistant Commissioner Raegan Stewart and Detective Superintendent Bernard Geason. They guided the Fijian delegation on a comprehensive tour of the command facility, allowing them to gain valuable insights into the major investigations and intelligence operations spearheaded by Commander Stewart in her role as Commander of Investigations.
During his visit, Commissioner Tudravu emphasized the growing interconnectedness of crime networks between Fiji and Australia, reinforcing the urgent need for strong collaboration. He expressed appreciation for the ongoing exchange of information and the capacity-building initiatives designed for Fijian law enforcement officers, which are vital in strengthening their operational capabilities.
The visit took place alongside the ANZPAA Police Conference, where Commissioner Tudravu was accompanied by AFP Senior Liaison Officer in Suva, Detective Superintendent Grant Liddy, and Fiji Police Director of Coordination, Superintendent Rajeshni Mala. This gathering serves as a platform for enhancing cooperation and exploring innovative strategies to combat crime in the region.
By fostering these relationships and focusing on intelligence-sharing, both Fiji and Australia are taking proactive steps to tackle the challenges posed by transnational crime, ultimately contributing to safer communities in both nations.
