Fiji Athletics Takes a Leap with New World-Class Equipment!

The Fiji Secondary Schools Athletics Association (FSSAA) is elevating the standards of its annual Fiji Finals by investing in new, internationally certified athletic equipment. The first shipment of this equipment has arrived, much to the satisfaction of FSSAA Secretary Biu Colati.

Colati emphasized the importance of providing the best resources for student-athletes in Fiji. Previously used equipment, particularly for events like the javelin throw, posed safety risks as officials would manually carry the items into the arena. With the new gear, including starter blocks, certified discus, and larger IWF-certified landing mattresses for high jumps, the association aims to create a safer and more efficient competition environment.

The investment of approximately $65,000, significantly reduced from an initial $110,000 thanks to a payment arrangement with Sports World, demonstrates a commitment to improving athletes’ safety and performance. Colati noted that this procurement initiative would continue over the next three years, aiming to fully incorporate world-class equipment into Fiji’s athletic landscape.

The excitement surrounding the Fiji Finals, set to take place next week from Thursday to Saturday at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva, is palpable. Live coverage will be available through FBC Sports, allowing fans and family members to engage with the event from afar.

As the event approaches, the FSSAA’s enhancements suggest a promising future for athletics in Fiji, aimed at nurturing talent and providing a competitive edge to young athletes. This proactive approach is indeed a step towards ensuring the athletes can shine brightly, inspiring future generations to pursue excellence in sports.
