In a commendable effort to support the next generation of athletes, the Fiji Secondary Schools Athletics Association (FSSAA) has generously donated $15,000 to Athletics Fiji. This funding is aimed at assisting five exceptional athletes selected to compete in the upcoming Pacific Mini Games in Palau, a prestigious event scheduled for June.

Athletes benefiting from this donation include notable performers from the recent Coca-Cola Games, a key platform for sporting excellence in Fiji. FSSAA Secretary Biu Colati expressed pride in this investment, emphasizing the importance of nurturing the hard work and dedication exhibited by these student-athletes. “I’d like to thank Athletics Fiji for the opportunity given to our athletes who came through the Coca-Cola Games. We are here to support them,” Colati stated.

Athletics Fiji Secretary Lilian Amasa echoed these sentiments, highlighting that the donation not only alleviates financial burden but also encourages athletes and their families during a time when fundraising is particularly challenging. “Athletics Fiji is struggling with levies; however, community support through parents and small fundraisers is helping,” Amasa noted.

This initiative enhances the significance of the Pacific Mini Games as a critical stage for athletes from Fiji, showcasing their talent on an international arena. The backing from FSSAA propels these young competitors one step closer to realizing their sporting dreams.

Past efforts have shown a unified commitment across various sports associations in Fiji to support athletic development. For instance, the Fiji Sports Council previously provided $9,000 to support other athletes facing similar financial barriers. Such collaborative efforts across federations reflect a hopeful trajectory for Fiji’s athletic landscape as communities rally together to cultivate future sports stars.

With collective support issues like financial levies being met through initiatives and donations, there is optimism for Fiji’s representation at the Pacific Mini Games. As athletes gear up for this significant competition, the backing from organizations like FSSAA promises to inspire them further in their pursuit of excellence.
