The 2024 Tuckers Ice-Cream Fiji Primary Schools Athletics Championships concluded at the HFC Bank Stadium on Friday, with their president, Patrick Bower, expressing commitment to the participating districts. Addressing concerns raised by various districts, Bower indicated that while some complaints were legitimate, the event organizers worked diligently to address these issues, ensuring that no deserving athletes were overlooked.
Bower referenced a situation where certain districts felt their athletes were excluded, necessitating a review of the program. “We took their feedback seriously and went back to assess the situation,” he explained, emphasizing the importance of responsible management in future competitions.
Bower articulated that the association’s approach is essential not just for immediate concerns but also for shaping the future of athletics in Fiji, stating, “It is critical to get it right at this level, as it impacts their journey moving forward.”
In terms of competition results, Suva One triumphed in the boys’ division, securing a total of 12 gold, nine silver, and six bronze medals. Nadi celebrated victory in the girls’ category, amassing 18 gold, nine silver, and seven bronze medals.
This event highlights not only the athletic talent present in Fiji’s primary schools but also the dedication of the Fiji Primary Schools Athletics Association to nurture and support young athletes. By addressing concerns and striving for improvement, the association is setting a positive precedent for future sporting events.
The ongoing commitment to listening and responding to feedback ensures that all athletes have equal opportunities to shine, fostering a spirit of inclusivity and excellence in Fiji’s sporting landscape.
