Team Fiji’s athletes for the Pacific Mini Games received an encouraging message from Minister for Youth and Sports, Jese Saukuru, during a recent gathering at the FMF Gymnasium. As the national representatives prepare for the Games, Saukuru emphasized the responsibility they carry to represent Fiji with commitment and pride.
In his motivational speech, the Minister urged the athletes to showcase their best abilities and to serve as ambassadors for their nation, on and off the field. He conveyed a Biblical sentiment, referencing Matthew 22:14, “Many are called, but few are chosen,” highlighting the significance of their selection to compete representing Fiji.
Saukuru reminded the athletes of the importance of camaraderie as they face tough competition from other Pacific teams. He underscored that these Games are not just an opportunity to compete but also a platform to demonstrate their skills and spirit as they support one another against some of the best athletes in the region.
A contingent of 186 members, including 73 male athletes and 63 female athletes along with 50 officials, will represent Fiji across 12 sports during the Pacific Mini Games, which will take place in Koror, Palau from June 29 to July 9.
This assembly and motivational send-off align with previous positive sentiments shared about Fiji’s athletic community. Earlier articles noted the excitement surrounding Team Fiji’s preparations, especially following commendable performances at events like the Coca-Cola Games, which have bolstered hopes for success at the Mini Games.
The collective spirit of dedication and community support reflects a hopeful outlook for Team Fiji as they aim to excel at this prestigious international event. Athletes and supporters are united in their ambition to elevate Fiji’s standing in regional sports and bring pride to their nation.
