The Fiji Police Force has announced the arrest of four foreign nationals and two locals from Veisaru in Ba in relation to a significant drug bust that occurred during a coordinated raid in Vatia waters on January 15, 2026. The operation resulted in the seizure of an impressive 2,630 parcels of cocaine.
Following consultations with the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), the four Ecuadorian nationals have been charged with multiple offenses including one count of Unlawful Importation of Illicit Drugs, one count of Unlawful Possession of Illicit Drugs, and one count of Unlawful Entry into Fiji under the Immigration Act 2003.
In addition, one of the local men, a 26-year-old, faces charges of one count of Unlawful Importation of Illicit Drugs, two counts of Unlawful Possession of Illicit Drugs, and one count of Serious Assault. The second local accused, a 39-year-old, has been charged with one count of Unlawful Possession of Illicit Drugs and one count of Serious Assault.
All six accused individuals are scheduled to appear in the Tavua Magistrates Court today. Furthermore, police are actively investigating additional individuals who may have been involved in facilitating this illegal operation, indicating a continued commitment to dismantling the wider network responsible for the attempted importation of drugs into Fiji.
This crackdown on drug trafficking highlights the ongoing efforts by Fijian authorities to address and combat the illegal drug trade, pointing to proactive measures taken to protect public safety and uphold the law.
