The Public Service Commission (PSC) has officially announced the appointment of Mr. Peni Sikivou as the new Permanent Secretary for National Planning, Development, and Statistics. This significant appointment was made in agreement with the Prime Minister, confirming the government’s efforts to strengthen leadership in essential areas of public service.
PSC Chairman Luke Rokovada shared details regarding Mr. Sikivou’s extensive credentials, highlighting over 30 years of experience within government and across the Pacific region in various fields such as economic and strategic planning, financial management, and evaluation. Mr. Rokovada emphasized that Mr. Sikivou’s balanced experience in both public and private sectors, coupled with his regional expertise, positions him as a vital asset for the Ministry.
Previously, Mr. Sikivou contributed to regional development initiatives while serving with the Melanesian Spearhead Group (MSG) Secretariat in Port Vila, Vanuatu, where he worked on various regional development projects. He holds a Master of Science degree in macroeconomic policy and planning for developing countries from the University of Bradford in the United Kingdom, and he is currently pursuing doctoral studies to further broaden his knowledge.
Chairman Rokovada expressed optimism for Mr. Sikivou’s leadership in driving Fiji’s national development priorities, emphasizing the importance of evidence-based planning and innovative statistical approaches. This appointment aligns with the ongoing commitment of the PSC to enhance governance quality and effectiveness within the Fijian public sector.
