Fiji Appoints New High Commissioner to Papua New Guinea: Meet Nato Evans

Jackson Bernard Nato Evans has officially been appointed as Fiji’s High Commissioner Designate to Papua New Guinea. The ceremonial commissioning was held by His Excellency Ratu Wiliame Katonivere, the President of Fiji, who extended his congratulations to High Commissioner Evans and wished him success in his new diplomatic role.

Bringing over 35 years of military experience, Evans is well-equipped for this position. He was previously reappointed in 2011 as the Director of Force Development and Strategic Command at the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF). His military background includes serving as the Commanding Officer of the 1st Battalion, Fiji Infantry Regiment, during a deployment in Iraq in May 2007.

Evans’ impressive career features various significant roles, such as Chief Staff Officer for Force Development at RFMF Headquarters in 2006, and he attained the rank of Colonel in 2008. His contributions have earned him multiple accolades, including the MFO Peacekeeping Medal for his service in Egypt and the Multinational Forces Commanders Command Medal for Exemplary Leadership on two occasions, in November 1999 and May 2000.

This appointment not only highlights Evans’ esteemed military background but also reflects Fiji’s commitment to enhancing its diplomatic ties in the Pacific region. His leadership skills and extensive experience offer a promising outlook for Fiji’s relations with Papua New Guinea.
