Fiji Appoints New High Commissioner to Papua New Guinea: Meet Jackson Bernard Nato Evans

Jackson Bernard Nato Evans has officially been appointed as Fiji’s High Commissioner Designate to Papua New Guinea. The commissioning ceremony was led by the President of the Republic of Fiji, His Excellency Ratu Wiliame Katonivere, who extended his congratulations to Evans and expressed best wishes for his new diplomatic journey.

With over 35 years of military service, Evans brings a wealth of experience to his role. Prior to this appointment, he was reappointed in 2011 as the Director of Force Development and Strategic Command at the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF). His notable military background includes leading the 1st Battalion, Fiji Infantry Regiment in Iraq during May 2007 and serving as Chief Staff Officer for Force Development at RFMF Headquarters in 2006. He rose to the rank of Colonel in 2008.

Evans’ career is marked by significant achievements, including receiving the MFO Peacekeeping Medal for his contributions in Egypt and being honored with the Multinational Forces Commanders Command Medal for Exemplary Leadership on two occasions—once in November 1999 and again in May 2000.

This appointment not only highlights Fiji’s commitment to strengthening diplomatic ties with Papua New Guinea, but also reflects the trust placed in experienced leaders like Evans to navigate the complexities of international relations. His extensive military background is likely to provide a solid foundation for fostering cooperation and dialogue between the two nations.
