Fiji Appoints New High Commissioner to Papua New Guinea

Jackson Bernard Nato Evans has been appointed as Fiji’s High Commissioner Designate to Papua New Guinea. The commissioning ceremony was presided over by President Ratu Wiliame Katonivere, who expressed his congratulations and best wishes to Evans for his new diplomatic role.

Evans, a highly regarded military officer with over three decades of service, brings a wealth of experience to this position. Prior to his appointment, he served as the Director of Force Development and Strategic Command at the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF), a role he resumed in 2011. His previous experience includes commanding the 1st Battalion, Fiji Infantry Regiment during their deployment in Iraq in May 2007.

His notable military career features a number of significant positions, including serving as Chief Staff Officer for Force Development at RFMF Headquarters in 2006, and achieving the rank of Colonel in 2008. His dedication and leadership in military operations have been recognized through various awards, including the MFO Peacekeeping Medal for service in Egypt and the Multinational Forces Commanders Command Medal for Exemplary Leadership on two occasions, in November 1999 and May 2000.

This appointment reflects the trust and confidence placed in Evans’ capabilities, and it marks a significant step in strengthening diplomatic relations between Fiji and Papua New Guinea.
