Fiji Appoints New High Commissioner to Papua New Guinea

Jackson Bernard Nato Evans has officially been appointed as Fiji’s High Commissioner Designate to the Independent State of Papua New Guinea. The commissioning ceremony was led by His Excellency Ratu Wiliame Katonivere, the President of Fiji, who extended his congratulations to High Commissioner Evans and expressed his best wishes for success in this new diplomatic role.

With an impressive background as a decorated military officer, Evans offers over 35 years of service which greatly enhances his qualifications for this position. Prior to this appointment, he was the Director of Force Development and Strategic Command at the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF), a role he resumed in 2011. His military experience includes serving as the Commanding Officer for the 1st Battalion, Fiji Infantry Regiment during a deployment in Iraq in May 2007.

Evans’s notable career encompasses his time as the Chief Staff Officer for Force Development at RFMF Headquarters in 2006, culminating in a promotion to Colonel in 2008. His achievements are recognized with prestigious awards, including the MFO Peacekeeping Medal for his service in Egypt and the Multinational Forces Commanders Command Medal for Exemplary Leadership, awarded to him on two occasions in 1999 and 2000.

This diplomatic mission marks a significant step not only for Evans but also for Fiji, as it strengthens the country’s relations with Papua New Guinea and enhances its presence in the region. With his extensive experience and recognized leadership abilities, Evans is poised to make a meaningful impact in his new role.
